Lawyer Ali Hammouda, a specialist in family affairs and personal status, said that the list of marital movables in the law is a paper prepared by the bride’s family, to prove her movables, and the husband signs them, to ensure the wife’s right to the marital movables in the house.
Hammouda added that there is a penalty for those who waste the list of marital movables, according to the Penal Code in Articles 341 and 342, stressing that the legislator used the criminal law and criminalized some contracts, under which the list of movables falls.
Hammouda explained that the list of marital movables is nothing but a common custom in Egyptian society, and it is based on the woman writing down on the list what she or her husband buys from the furniture for the house, and the husband signs the list as a document that he is obliged to return if requested to do so, and the list is considered a contract. To be honest, the law punishes the husband for his breach, and then faces the crime of squandering marital movables.
Hammouda stressed that all marital movables in the house or the movables bought by the wife are written only, and sometimes the wife’s family puts the value of the gold jewelry, and that the list of marital movables is legally equal to the receipt of the trust in the criminalization article, according to Article 391 of the Penal Code.
